Atwood
Atwood, Colorado is an unincorporated community and a census designated place in Logan County in northeastern Colorado
History
The community of Atwood was established and opened it post office in 1885. The town was named after James Atwood, a Unitarian minister. Atwood was also home to one of the early Jewish settlements in Colorado, know as the Atwood Colony. While no verifiable information exists for specific reasons for its founding, it seems most likely that is emerged as an agricultural settlement. Victor Wilson, who surveyed and platted the townsite along the Union Pacific Railroad is generally considered the founder of the community.

Unique Fact: Atwood was named after Reverend Isaac M. Atwood, who was a prominent Universalist minister and the president of the Canton Theological School at St. Lawrence University. Despite being a small railroad siding in Colorado, it bears the name of a high-ranking East Coast academic and theologian.
