Weldona is an unincorporated town, a post office, and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Morgan County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Fort Morgan, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Weldona post office has the ZIP Code 80653. At the United States Census 2020, the population of the Weldona CDP was 113.

History

Weldona, Colorado, is a small unincorporated town in Morgan County. The town’s history dates back to the 1880s when settlers began arriving in the Weldon Valley. Initially, the town was called “Duel,” but it was later renamed Weldona at the request of its residents.

The Weldona post office has been in operation since 1907, and the community was named after General Weldon. Throughout the early 20th century, Weldona served as a principal business and social center for the Weldon Valley community. The town’s economy was largely based on agriculture, with families raising cattle, sheep, and growing crops like sugar beets and potatoes.

Education was also a significant part of Weldona’s development. The first school in the area was the Glassey School, followed by several others, including the Weldona High School, which was built in 1911.

The Weldona CDP has an area of 100 acres, all land. Weldona is located at 40° 20′ 54.27″ N, 103° 58′ 9.71″ W
