Roggen
Roggen is an unincorporated community and a U.S. Post Office in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The Roggen Post Office has the ZIP Code 80652. A post office called Roggen has been in operation since 1883. The community most likely derives its name from Edward P. Roggin, a Nebraska legislator.
History
Roggen established a post office in 1883, supporting ranching and railroad businesses with a hotel, church, and grocery. Roggen was the site of a sugar beet dump between 1917 and 1975. The towns official landmark is the Roggen Grain Elevator. In 1885, the Great Blizzard occured. Following the Great Blizzard of 1885, Roggen ranchers only located two percent of their herds alive. However nearly all of Roggen's Painter Ranch cold-country bred stock survived the Great Blizzard of 1885. Roggen's town plat was filed by the Last Springs Ranch Company on June 17, 1908. Within two years of the town plat filing, surveys revealed that the area had potential for oil deposits. Roggen Farmers Elevator Association is a privately held by producer farmers since 1955, Roggen Farmers Elevator Association has been a trusted merchandiser of grains for over 70 years.
