Pierce is a Statutory Town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,097 at the 2020 census.The town is a rural agricultural community located on the Colorado Eastern Plains along U.S. Highway 85 north of Greeley.

History

The town was formally established as a community in 1918. Railroad Significance: The Denver Pacific Railroad laid tracks through the area in 1869, connecting Denver with Cheyenne, Wyoming. This connection was crucial for the town’s development, as it facilitated transportation and commerce. Early Infrastructure: The first structures in Pierce included a well for steam locomotives and a boxcar that served as the first building. The town grew with the addition of a house for the track foreman’s family and other essential buildings. Community Development: By 1918, Pierce had its own newspaper, the “Pierce Leader,” and a hotel located where the post office now stands. The town’s growth was supported by the agricultural activities in the surrounding area.
