McCoy

McCoy is an unincorporated town, a census-designated place (CDP), and a post office located in and governed by Eagle County. The CDP is a part of the Edwards, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The McCoy post office has the ZIP Code 80463.According to the 2020 cencus , the population of the McCoy CDP was 30.

History

In the late 1800's Claude McCoy arrived in Colorado from Illinois. Hearing stories of the west made him want to ranch and he began to learn the business by working for various ranchers. He married Rosetta Gert,er in 1903 and they settled north of Idalia in Yuma County, south of the Arikaree River. Here they built a sod house, acquired more pieces of land by homestead and purchase,and raised seven children. In 1945 Claude sold the homestead and other acquired property to two sons, John and Leo, with Leo later selling his half to John in 1988. In 2003 the property changed ownership to John's daughter Judy Wieser. Chester and Judy farm southwest of ldalia. While their son Dennis and wife Rebekah and family live on the homestead and continue to run the ranch. The original sod house and an impressive array of historic structures remain in place and in use today. The bar L seven brand is still in registered to the family. The McCoy Post Office has been in operation since 1891.

The town of McCoy is located at 39°54′52″N 106°43′33″W and is 6683 feet above sea level McCoy has a total land mass of .294 Square Miles
