The Town of Grover is a Statutory Town located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 157 at the 2020 United States Census, a 14.60% increase since the 2010 United States Census. Grover is a part of the Greeley, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor.
History
The town of Grover, Colorado has a rich history that includes the following notable events: Naming Grover was named in 1885 by the first postmaster, Neal Donovan, after his wife Dollie Grover. Railroad The Grover station was built on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1887. The Grover Depot, built by the Burlington Railroad Company, is a rare example of a two-story railroad depot in Colorado and is now the Grover Depot Museum. Rodeo The Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo has been held annually in Grover since 1923 and is known as the “Biggest Little Rodeo in the West”. Female mayor In 1929, Grover had a female mayor, Elizabeth Lower, and a female town board. Pioneer past Grover was a prosperous city with a newspaper, school, post office, opera house, and multiple hotels and groceries. However, families and businesses moved away due to the Dust Bowl and the departure of the railroad.
