History
The town was named after Charles Cowdrey and his wife, Julia.
Cowdrey, Colorado, is a small, unincorporated community located in Jackson County
The town has a rich history tied to cattle and supply trade, situated near the confluence of the North Platte, Michigan, and Canadian rivers.
One notable landmark in Cowdrey is the Cowdrey General Store, a two-story stucco building with vigas (wooden beams)
Founded around its post office opening in 1915, Cowdrey bears the name of Charles Cowdrey and his wife Julia—whose untimely death (struck by a loose board during a storm) is part of local lore. Nestled at the confluence of the North Platte, Michigan, and Canadian rivers, Cowdrey became a modest cattle and supply trade outpost amidst North Park's high plain ranches. A key landmark—the two-story Cowdrey General Store—became a community anchor. Later generations added unique touches, like a three-domed pink stucco geodesic house near town.
Mid-century developments include the Cowdrey Dam (1952) forming the Cowdrey Reservoir—a private water project integral to local ranching and recreation
There's also a unique house made of three interconnected geodesic domes covered in pink stucco, located just west of the town
Cowdrey Reservoir, created after the construction of the Cowdrey Dam in 1952, is another significant feature of the area
The dam, approximately 700 feet long, blocks the Michigan River and is privately owned by the North Park Angus Ranch.

Comment
Having traveled thru here on the way to somewhere else many times I was not aware there were any sand dunes anywhere near here, it may be a place worth stopping by just to see. Don't count on any services while in Cowdry! It is important to note that as of the most recent census, there were 19% more men than women in Cowdry. (25 men, 21 women)
