History
Briggsdale, Colorado, was established in 1909 and named after Frank N. Briggs, a local farmer and one of the town’s founders1. The Briggsdale Post Office opened on August 1, 19101. The town is located in the northeastern plains of Colorado, just west of the Pawnee National Grassland. Frank N. Briggs named the town after his father, George W. Briggs. Frank was quite influential in the area, serving as the president of the First National Bank in Windsor and running a grocery store. Rail & Post Office: Strategically positioned along the Crow Creek branch of the Union Pacific Railroad, the community secured a post office in August 1910, essential for mail and supply in the era. Town Development: Frank Briggs donated lots for schools and churches, and his son Paul opened a general store and cream station, while the Briggsdale State Bank was formed. Social life included dances accompanied by player piano and visiting bands Today, Briggsdale remains a small community with residential homes, historic churches, and a single gas station.Primarily agricultural: local farms grow wheat, corn, alfalfa and raise livestock. The Briggsdale School District RE‑10 remains a central institution serving pre‑K through 12th grade.
