History
Nunn, Colorado, has a fascinating history that dates back to the late 19th century. The town was named after Tom Nunn, a local resident who heroically flagged down a train to prevent it from crossing a burning bridge. In appreciation of his deed, the Denver Pacific Railroad allotted a square mile of land for settlement, and the community was named Nunn in his honor. The town was officially incorporated in 1908, and the Nunn Depot was built the same year. Nunn quickly adopted the slogan “Watch Nunn Grow” as it developed into a thriving community. However, like many small towns, Nunn faced significant challenges during the Great Depression. The Civil Works Administration, a New Deal program, financed the development of Municipal Hall in 1933, but the program was discontinued before the building could be completed. The community came together to raise funds through benefits, dances, and other events to finish the hall, which housed the police station, fire department, and Town Clerk.
